Abstract

Quantum sensing challenges the basic paradigms of classical estimation theory, which relate the precision of a measured
quantity to the number of repeated measurements. This allows for a new science of sensing, and may enable sensors
with unprecedented precision. The ENtanglement-enhanced QUantum sensIng fRom topologY (ENQUIRY) Young CAS
proposal suggests a novel avenue to approaching the foundational question of quantum sensing; how to use quantum
entanglement in a targeted way to achieve the most precise measurement possible. Based on recent work, I propose that
certain quantum phase transitions, characterized by topological properties, hold great promise to answer this question.
