RJ Fellowship
As funding challenges continue to impact the humanities and social sciences, CAS is taking proactive steps to support researchers in these disciplines. In partnership with Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ), CAS is pleased to offer the Nordic Fellowship Program, a unique programme designed to foster academic collaboration and mobility across the Nordic borders.
Through this initiative, CAS Research Grant (CRG) groups within the humanities and social sciences has an exceptional opportunity to enhance their project by adding a researcher from a Swedish higher education or research institution to their team, without extra cost to their budget.
RJ Fellows receive a fully paid sabbatical, with all administrative arrangements managed by CAS. The fellowship covers accommodation and travel to and from the researcher’s home institution in Sweden and provides the fellow with the same exceptional academic environment, support, and resources as all CAS fellows. It is possible to apply for two RJ Fellows, one for each semester.
If you're preparing a CRG application and have an established connection with a Swedish scholar—or know someone who would be a great fit—we strongly encourage you to include them as an RJ Fellow.
Why Include an RJ Fellow in your CRG group?
Adding an RJ Fellow to your team offers several benefits:
- Strengthen your Nordic network, by inviting your chosen researcher from a Swedish institution to collaborate at CAS for up to six months.
- Increase the competitiveness and visibility of your project/proposal through support from RJ, a prestigious Swedish research funder.
- Expand your team at no additional cost, as the RJ Fellowship is fully funded and does not affect your project budget.
Eligibility for the RJ Fellowship:
To qualify, the proposed RJ Fellow must:
- Hold a PhD and be employed in an academic position in the humanities and/or social sciences at a Swedish higher education or research institution, and
- Be included as a core member of the proposed CRG project.
Please note that the RJ Fellowship is not awarded through a separate application process. Instead, the PI of a CRG project includes the RJ Fellow directly in their CRG application.
Our first RJ Fellow joined CAS in August 2025, and the feedback from the host research group has been overwhelmingly positive. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to enhance your project with fresh perspectives and strengthen Nordic ties within the humanities and social sciences – all without additional expenses for your CRG budget.
