Hernes-CAS Mobility Grant
The Hernes-CAS Mobility Grant is an outstanding opportunity to pursue high-level, innovative research under ideal conditions. The grant is developed in collaboration with Gudmund Hernes and will be generously supported by the Hernes Foundation.
This unique opportunity offers a five-month fully-funded research residency at either The Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) in Uppsala or The Paris Institute for Advanced Study (Paris-IAS). The grant is aimed at researchers who are or have been PIs in our CAS Research Grant (CRG) or Young CAS Grant (YCG) programme during the last four years.
The programme welcomes applications from researchers in social science, history and politics, as well as mathematics and the natural sciences, provided their projects demonstrate societal relevance. The programme enables former PIs to build upon their previous research at CAS, expand their networks and foster valuable collaborations at leading European institutes that share CAS’s commitment to excellent basic, curiosity-driven, interdisciplinary research.
The grant covers the following:
- A fully paid sabbatical for five months: The grant will cover a five months 100% sabbatical as well as social costs and handling fee at your home institution.
- Round trip travel and accommodation in Paris or Uppsala: Accommodation in Uppsala and Paris will be provided by the respective institutes and will be covered by the grant.
- Office space, administrative support and other standard amenities at the host institution: Both Paris-IAS and SCAS provide excellent conditions for visiting fellows. Receivers of the Hernes-CAS Mobility Grant will be included in all social and academic activities at the receiving institute and have access to all available facilities at the institutes.
Selection process
The applications will be discussed by the CAS Board of Directors who decide on a shortlist. The shortlisted projects will be handled by a nomination committee consisting of representatives from CAS, SCAS, Paris-IAS and Gudmund Hernes. The nomination committee will rank the finalists and recommend a grantee.
The final decision will be made by the CAS board of directors and must be approved by the scientific advisory boards of respectively SCAS or Paris-IAS.
