Computational Modeling of Brain Clearance During Sleep

Project illustration for Mathematics Challenges in Brain Mechanics

This lunch seminar is presented by PIs Kent-Andre Mardal and Jan Martin Nordbotten of the project "Mathematical Challenges in Brain Mechanics".

Recent theories state that a main purpose of sleep is to clean the brain of waste produced during the day. Insufficient clearance is proposed to be a cause of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. The process of brain clearance is however a complex multi-physics process. In this talk we will give an overview and mention some associated mathematical challenges.
