CAS at Arendalsuka 2023: Exploring Societal Challenges through Basic Research
CAS proudly participated in Arendalsuka 2023, a Norwegian political festival held annually in Arendal during the month of August.
Arendalsuka serves as a significant platform for fostering critical discussions on a variety of societal issues. Our event, titled "What Can Basic Research Tell Us About Diversity, Inclusion, and Work Life?" successfully brought together distinguished researchers hailing from diverse fields. During the panel discussion, the exploration of the intersections between work life, gender equality, and technology studies ensued, addressing the imperative questions that arise in a world being reshaped by the forces of globalization, efficiency, and digitization.
The panelists who contributed were as follows:
-
Marit Haldar: Professor of Sociology at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMET) and the leader of the Research Center for Digitalisation of Public Services and Citizenship (CEDIC). She also heads the interdisciplinary research group Welfare Access Through Technology (WATT).
-
Maria Ingrid Teresa Olsson: Associate Professor in Social Psychology at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (HINN) and the newly elected PI for our Young CAS Grant. Her project, 'Towards a New and Culturally Sensitive Understanding of Gender Inequality: Women and Men in Modern (Work) Life', aims to identify and address gaps in existing gender equality indices. Olsson is also the leader of the research group OASIS.
-
Camilla Serck-Hanssen: Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oslo and, of course, director of CAS.
-
Leonora Onarheim Bergsjø: Associate Professor II at the University of Agder with research experience in technology, ethics, and society.
The conversation was moderated by Umar Ashraf, author of the book "Hvit PR - why succeeding with multi-ethnic communication is important." Ashraf works as a communications advisor for Sannum & Bergestuen in his daily life.
